Hookah pipes or the “hubble bubble”, were first designed in Persia in the sixteenth century, and have been known by many different names over the globe. In Arabic water pipes are called the shisah or nargeela. In Eastern Europe it is called the lula, sometimes the lulava. Nargeela or nargilah is derived from the Sanskrit word for coconut, Narikela. Tobacco and coals are placed in the bowl and the smoker draws on the hose which creates a vacuum in the body of the pipe, pulling smoke down into the water where it is cooled, humidified and sometimes flavored.
